CITELEC, the European Association of cities interested in the use of electric
vehicles was founded on February 2nd 1990 under the aegis of the European
Community.The association now unites over 60 member cities in various countries.
CITELEC and its members are working on projects for the introduction of
electric vehicles, in order to solve their traffic and pollution problems.
CITELEC's main tasks are :
Informing cities about the performance and characteristics of electric
vehicles.
Helping cities with the deploymen t of electric vehicles and providing
usertraining
Supervising the realisation of charging infrastructure
Organising test demonstrations of electric vehicles in urban traffic, known
as the 12 Electric Hours'
Performing tests and assessment of electric vehicles on the European market
Conducting studies about the impact of electric vehicles in urban traffic,
the environment and urban planning.
In the context of ELCIDIS, the role of CITELEC is to aid in the
project's evaluation and dissemination activities. In this role CITELEC
will be assisted by ECN, the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation.
